Ministry of Agrarian Policy responded to rumors about potatoes at 50 hryvnia.
The Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine denies the possibility of potato prices rising to 50 hryvnia per kilogram.
This was reported by Deputy Minister Taras Vysotsky during a briefing at the Ukraine Media Center, according to Ukrinform.
According to the official, current prices remain at the level of 20 UAH/kg in the wholesale market and 30 UAH/kg in retail for the past two weeks. These indicators already cover production costs and allow for import operations.
"Despite the fact that this year's potato harvest has decreased by 18% due to drought, amounting to about 4 million tons, there are no grounds for significant price increases," Vysotsky emphasized.
Regarding imports, the deputy minister noted that Ukraine imports insignificant volumes of potatoes compared to domestic production. "Several tens of thousands of tons of imported products are sufficient to stabilize the price situation on the market," he explained.
At the same time, Vysotsky warned that a moderate price increase of approximately 15% is possible in the spring due to additional storage costs. At the same time, substantial price reductions in potatoes are also not expected.
It was also revealed that carrots are breaking price records, and this is not the limit.
