German Ministry of Defense and Bundeswehr leave Musk's social network due to conflict.
The German Ministry of Defense and the Bundeswehr have temporarily suspended their accounts on the social network X. The decision is related to the fact that discussing on the platform is becoming increasingly difficult. This was reported by Politico.
The decision to leave the platform was made just a few days after its owner, American billionaire Elon Musk, interacted on X with the leader of the far-right party 'Alternative for Germany' (AfD) Alice Weidel. After this step, the Ministry of Defense in Berlin will discuss whether all institutions should stop using the social network.
'The main reason for this decision is that, in the opinion of the Ministry of Defense, the objective exchange of arguments is becoming increasingly difficult,' the ministry's statement says.
The Ministry of Defense will not move to Bluesky – a popular alternative to X – instead, it will continue to share content on Instagram, YouTube, and on its WhatsApp channel.
'It is difficult to achieve a balance. The Ministry of Defense has taken its position, but for now, we continue to use the platform,' said a spokesperson from the chancellery to reporters in Berlin.
Earlier, two German trade unions and the Federal Court also announced that they would freeze their accounts on X.
As a reminder, Elon Musk's social network X will start charging for user registration. Registration on X is still free, but according to media reports, this could change in the coming months. The social network plans to charge $8 from every new user for account creation. The new measure is expected to take effect worldwide in February 2025.
Moreover, in recent weeks, billionaire Elon Musk has decided to redirect attention from problems in the United States to what is happening in Europe. Initially, he made a series of controversial posts regarding German politics.
In particular, the billionaire supported far-right views and called Scholz 'a fool' and 'garbage' through social media.
