The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine continues to investigate the reasons for the defective use of 120-millimeter mines. This was reported by the Ministry of Defense.

Currently, the agency has suspended the use of these munitions in the Defense Forces and their supply to combat units until the causes of the emergency detonation are established. The batch of supplied mines has been removed for further research, and they will be replaced with imported mines.

The initial results of the commission's investigation regarding the supply of low-quality 120-mm mortar mines indicate possible causes of defects, such as low-quality powder charges or violations of the storage conditions of munitions that led to their damage.

In this regard, the State Bureau of Investigation has initiated a criminal proceeding. Appropriate personnel decisions will also be made regarding responsible individuals based on the commission's findings.

The Ministry of Defense noted that it is the customer of these munitions for the Defense Forces, and the executor of the state order is the Ministry of Strategic Industry Sectors.

Currently, the Ministry of Defense is taking measures to improve quality control. This includes enhancing monitoring of storage conditions and inspections at all stages, including production and supply to the frontline.

Additionally, the commission will conduct an inspection of mortar mines of other calibers to verify compliance with manufacturing standards, quality of components, and conditions of storage.

Amnesty International criticizes the transfer of mines

The international human rights organization Amnesty International criticized U.S. President Joe Biden's decision to transfer antipersonnel mines to Ukraine to counter the Russian army in the East.

After this, the director of Amnesty International in Ukraine, Veronika Welch, commented on the statement from the organization's U.S. office, which called the U.S. president's decision 'reckless.'
