Zelenskyy named the conditions for a peace treaty: automatic sanctions and US guarantees

According to ТСН: The peace treaty that is supposed to end the war in Ukraine must include clear security guarantees from the USA and European partners, as well as automatic sanctions against the aggressor state.

Thus, the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, stated at a joint press conference with the Prime Minister of Portugal in Kyiv.

“Peace is better than war, but not at any cost... For us, a just, stable peace is important so that it cannot be violated by another wish from Putin or another Putin. It is crucial that there are strong security guarantees to prevent even the thought and physical possibility of aggression against us,” he said.

Zelenskyy emphasized that the treaty does not de facto exist as long as the war is not stopped and there are no real political security guarantees from the USA and Europe.

“A treaty does not exist today. It exists when it is not just on paper, when it is signed by the leaders, when the war is stopped,” he emphasized.

The President believes that the treaty should contain a series of agreements explaining how American and European partners will respond in the event of new aggression from Russia. This should also include automatic sanctions for aggression and the establishment of a strong Ukrainian army to contain the aggressor.

Additionally, it was previously stated by the Russian Foreign Ministry that the parties are “on the brink” of a diplomatic solution to the war in Ukraine. The Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation, Sergey Ryabkov, confirmed Moscow's readiness to conclude a peace treaty, but reiterated the ultimate demands.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio expressed hope that the peace treaty between Russia and Ukraine could be concluded by the end of 2025. However, he noted that Washington cannot force Ukraine or Russia to sign this document.

The current statements of Ukrainian and international leaders show that the issue of peace negotiations remains extremely relevant. The importance of establishing reliable security guarantees for Ukraine, which make up the main part of the peace treaty, requires serious discussion at the international level. This will be a guarantee of stability and the restoration of peaceful life in the region.
