Conscription Upon Reentry to Ukraine: Who Can Be Drafted at the Border.
Nationwide Mobilization in Ukraine
According to Novyny.live: Ukraine's general mobilization, first declared on February 24, 2022, remains in effect across the entire country. It applies to all individuals liable for military service, regardless of age. Citizens who have been living abroad may face conscription once they return to Ukraine, though in practice such cases are uncommon.
According to available information, mobilization can occur not only within Ukraine's borders but also right at the border crossing itself. For instance, if a citizen is on a wanted list or has ignored previous draft notices, they could be conscripted while still on a bus at the border checkpoint.
Vladyslav Deriy states: 'If you have no legal grounds for a deferment, you can be mobilized from any corner of Ukraine.'
This highlights the gravity of the situation and the importance of fulfilling military obligations.
Citizens' Rights and Responsibilities
It is also important to note that having a third-group disability status entitles a person to a deferment from mobilization. The draft targets reservists and military personnel in the reserve who have not been officially exempted through the established process during the mobilization period.
Vladyslav Deriy emphasizes: 'During mobilization, reservists and those liable for military service who are in the reserve and not officially exempted are called up for duty, regardless of where they are registered for military service.'
As a result, Ukraine's general mobilization continues to be a critical component of the country's defense capabilities. Citizens need to understand their rights and obligations related to conscription, as well as the possibility of obtaining a deferment in certain situations.
The mobilization situation in Ukraine remains relevant amid the ongoing military conflict. Given the persistent security threats, state authorities are taking continued steps to bolster defense readiness. Citizens should stay informed about their legal rights and duties to avoid misunderstandings and legal complications in the event of a draft.
