Rare Roman Coin Sold for £4,700
A rare coin from ancient Rome was sold for £4,700 ($5,900) at Fieldings Auctioneers in Great Britain. This information was reported by 'Glavkom'.
76-year-old Ron Walters from Kingswinford (England) found this artifact last year near Dudley in the West Midlands using a metal detector.
The coin, dated to AD 69, is a unique find for the British Isles. It depicts Emperor Vitellius, who ruled for only eight months during a civil war known as the 'Year of the Four Emperors'.
The coin was purchased by a collector from Scotland. It is worth noting that a similar artifact found earlier was sold in Switzerland last year for around £50,000.
Additionally, a collection of nearly 15,000 ancient gold and silver coins will be auctioned at Numismatica Ars Classica (NAC). The lot is estimated at $100 million.
