Odesa to allocate 4 million for the inspection of the emergency dam: what threats a breakthrough poses
The Khadjibey Dam, which protects the Peresyp district from the liman, will be inspected and certified. Nearly 4 million hryvnias are planned to be allocated from the city budget for this.According to information from the electronic procurement portal Prozorro, the Department of Engineering Protection of the City Territory and Coastal Development of the Odesa City Council has planned to conduct a comprehensive inspection of the technical condition of the Khadjibey Liman dam, as well as certification of the structure. A total of 3,810,000 hryvnias is planned to be allocated from the city budget for these works. Proposals from contractors will be accepted until August 18, and the work is expected to be completed by December 15, 2025.The Khadjibey Dam, which separates the liman from the Peresyp district, was built back in 1932. Unfortunately, since 2003, the structure has effectively been in an emergency state. To reduce the risk of a breakthrough, 900 meters of the dam were reinforced in 2016-2017. However, in the summer of 2023, the company 'Rostdorbud' won the tender for the repair of this structure for 62.3 million hryvnias. Despite the carried out minor repairs, major repairs have not been conducted yet. It is also important to note that the issue of the landholder of the land on which the dam is located remains unresolved, complicating the inclusion of the facility in capital repair programs. This territory is partially occupied by the Nerubaisk and Usatovo rural communities. In the event of a breakthrough of the Khadjibey Dam, the entire Peresyp district may be flooded. In connection with the above, it is important to conduct a comprehensive inspection and repair of the Khadjibey Dam to ensure the safety of residents of the Peresyp district from potential dangers.
