In Kyiv region, large-scale illegal sand mining uncovered — video.
The police in Kyiv region uncovered large-scale illegal sand mining that could lead to an ecological disaster. The criminal scheme was organized by the owner of a farm, who involved his father, brother, and other relatives. This was reported by the National Police of Ukraine on July 11.
The police discovered that as a result of illegal actions, an artificial water body was formed in Kyiv region, covering an area of over three hectares and reaching a depth of up to six meters. This is equivalent to the area of four football fields and the height of a two-story building. The created water body poses a serious threat to nature, in particular, it may disrupt the hydrological regime of the Irpin River. The situation was managed thanks to the activities of law enforcement.
As a result of the investigation, it was established that the perpetrators of this criminal scheme were the owner of the farm and the tenant of several lands, who involved their relatives in the criminal activities. Instead of farming on the rented plots, illegal sand extraction was carried out using special equipment. Such actions caused significant damage to the environment and undermined the ecological stability of the region.
Conclusion
The illegal sand mining in Kyiv region led to the formation of an artificial water body, which created a serious threat to nature and the river basin. The police dismantled the criminal scheme and exposed the guilty parties who will be held accountable for the environmental harm.
