Drone Strikes Hit Moscow: Refinery Fires Erupt and Airports Face Flight Restrictions.
Moscow and Regional Drone Attacks
According to Espreso.tv: Drone attacks struck Moscow and surrounding areas on the night of July 10, triggering fires at multiple locations, including near the Kapotnya oil refinery and the Nizhnekamsk refinery. Flight operations were restricted at airports in both Moscow and Saint Petersburg as a result. The assault reportedly began around 10:13 PM. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin confirmed that several drones were shot down, though official confirmation of a blaze on the Kapotnya plant grounds has not yet been issued.
Incidents in Other Cities
The cities of Azov and Taganrog also came under drone attack during the same night. In Taganrog, a fire broke out near the port area, while in Azov, an oil depot was reportedly targeted. Additionally, a fire was reported at the Ilsky oil refinery. In response, restrictions on flight arrivals and departures were imposed at Domodedovo and Pulkovo airports. The situation remains tense, with further updates expected.
Drone strikes on critical infrastructure may signal escalating tensions in the region.
The potential impact on energy security and the economy is significant, given the crucial role refineries play in fuel supply. The imposition of flight restrictions at major airports underscores the severity of the threat and the possibility of further attacks, demanding close monitoring by relevant authorities.
