Odesa's Privoz Market Launches Winter Fish Delicacy Season Amid Power Outages.
Winter Fish Delicacy Season Opens at Privoz Market
According to Novyny.live: The winter season for fish delicacies has begun at Odesa's famous Privoz market, despite ongoing power outages that have dampened consumer demand. Vendors report a significant drop in orders due to the blackouts, which is directly impacting their sales volumes.
Product Range and Pricing
The winter selection at Privoz includes:
- Smoked and dried fish;
- A variety of other fish products.
Beluga and sturgeon fillets, considered the premium delicacies, are priced at 2,000 hryvnias per kilogram. Prices for fish 'cakes' range from 2,000 to 2,500 hryvnias per kilogram. Vendors note that rolls fall into a similar price category as the cakes and can be dried, smoked, or a combination of both.
Caviar is especially popular, with prices fluctuating between 8,000 and 10,000 hryvnias per kilogram, depending on the producer and product origin. Vendors emphasize that the lack of electricity has severely affected their orders, an impact they are feeling firsthand. This historic market is a key hub for fresh and specialty foods in southern Ukraine.
To tackle the issues caused by unreliable power supply, vendors at Privoz market have purchased generators for each stall. One vendor explained their solution:
“We have a large inverter with a battery, which allows us to vacuum-seal products and maintain their freshness by adding ice, ensuring the goods reach customers without any issues.”
Despite the challenges posed by power cuts, Privoz market continues to operate and adapt to the new conditions. Vendors are actively seeking ways to preserve product quality and attract customers, demonstrating the resilience of local business in difficult economic circumstances. These measures involving generators should help stabilize sales, though the future outlook remains dependent on improvements to the regional power supply situation.
