The death of Major General of the Russian Federation Pavel Klimenko, who commanded the Fifth Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade, was neutralized by defense forces. The deceased's sisters confirmed his death on social media, and the Russian media "Important Stories" confirmed the authenticity of their social media pages.

This is already the 13th report about the death of Russian generals during the war with Ukraine. Of these, only eight are officially confirmed by Russia.

Klimenko, who was born in Stavropol, served in Crimea until the invasion of Ukraine began. He received the rank of Major General in May 2024. A month before this, his brigade's fighters killed American propagandist Russell Bentley in Donetsk. Currently, four brigade fighters are under investigation for Bentley's murder.

In April, Klimenko's soldiers tortured conscripted music teacher Vladimir Frolov. Frolov wanted to demobilize due to health reasons, but he was tortured to death. It became known from the deceased's relatives that Frolov's body was mutilated by torture, so it had to be buried in a closed coffin.

According to investigations by Russian journalists, Klimenko organized a concentration camp for Russian servicemen in Donetsk. There, under torture, they are forced to give money to commanders and pay for injuries. Also, severely wounded Russians are forced to go on assaults during torture.

The criminal case investigation into the murder of American Russell Bentley in the Donetsk region was recently completed. Four Russian soldiers were accused of brutal violence and attempting to cover up the crime.

Bentley joined the armed formations of the "DPR" in 2014 and was in the "Vostok" battalion until 2017. He worked at Sputnik. Bentley married a local woman in Donetsk and had Russian citizenship.
