According to Espreso.tv: Ukraine’s National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO) have charged eight individuals linked to the embezzlement of more than 150 million Ukrainian hryvnias from the National Guard. The fraud involved inflating property prices and other corrupt practices during a 2024 procurement for a storage facility. This case highlights ongoing efforts to tackle high-level corruption in Ukraine’s state institutions.

According to investigators, the real estate’s value was artificially inflated by over 143 million UAH. Additionally, the suspects misappropriated more than 7 million UAH in budget funds through separate purchases. The stolen money was funneled through shell companies to obscure its origin and complicate detection.

Investigation Findings

During the probe, law enforcement seized significant cash amounts: 340,000 US dollars and 99,700 euros. Authorities also placed liens on the suspects’ property and assets. Those charged include:

• officials from the National Guard’s Main Directorate;
• two private entrepreneurs;
• the director of a controlled company;
• two directors of appraisal firms.
