NABU and SAP revealed a scheme of embezzlement of funds during the Ministry of Defense's purchase of food products for the Armed Forces

NABU and SAP discovered a fraudulent scheme for embezzling money in the Ministry of Defense during the purchase of food products for the army. This information was reported by the NABU website.

Notices of suspicion were sent to: the former head of the Ministry of Defense Department; the owner of related supply companies; two heads of supply companies; and an individual. Qualification: embezzlement, attempted embezzlement, legalization under the Criminal Code of Ukraine

According to NABU, the provision of food products for the army was managed by food kits. There was a catalog with 409 items that could be ordered. However, only 10% of them, such as vegetables, cereals, meat, and water, were utilized. The rest, like spices, gelatin, or rare berries, were rarely ordered or not ordered at all.

The kit was formed based on the average cost of all items in the catalog. This allowed suppliers to manipulate prices by inflating the prices of popular goods and lowering them for rare or seasonal products (e.g., berries in winter). It did not appear as a violation externally, and the price of the kit did not change. However, potatoes, which were supplied by the ton, were sold with an inconspicuous markup, while berries and fruits, which were almost never ordered, cost pennies.

Due to these machinations, two supply companies controlled by one owner received illegal superprofits amounting to over 733 million UAH during the years 2022-2023. This was confirmed by expert findings, according to NABU.

It is also known that one official from the Ministry of Defense, when signing contracts, did not notice the price anomalies in the catalog and facilitated the commission of the crime.

The scandal with eggs at 17 UAH began after the publication of an investigation on the ZN.UA website titled 'Rear rats of the Ministry of Defense during the war are cutting more on food for the Armed Forces than in peaceful times.'

At that Time, Minister of Defense Oleksiy Reznikov denied the accusations regarding the purchase of eggs at inflated prices.

I want to ask those who believe this is true to find the first publication about eggs at 17 UAH and send me a marked copy, highlighting in red where you see this price. You will not find this, so the myth of the egg at 17 UAH remains a myth.

In early 2023, Oleksiy Reznikov was dismissed from the position of minister due to the scandal over the eggs and other embezzlement schemes. He is not one of the suspects announced by NABU.
