According to UATV: Artillery crews from the 5th Slobozhanska Brigade 'Skif' of the National Guard of Ukraine are carrying out critical missions in the Kupiansk sector, where they defend territory and reclaim lost positions. Among the soldiers are gunners with call signs 'Mongol' and 'Luka,' who frequently discuss firing tactics and the crucial role of camouflage in achieving their objectives.

The 5th Slobozhanska Brigade 'Skif' has been engaged in frontline combat since late 2024. 'Mongol,' who previously served in the Presidential Honor Guard Battalion of Ukraine, recalls that his first shot from an artillery piece left an unforgettable impression.

“When I first fired the cannon, it completely killed my love for small arms—it’s a whole different level, a completely unique feeling that words cannot describe”
— shares 'Mongol.'

Effective Service and Tactical Advantages

National Guard soldier 'Luka' joined the 'Skif' brigade in 2024. He notes that specialized skills are not always required for successful service:

“You don’t necessarily need to have any specific skills. That’s not essential at all. The main thing is to figure out how you can be useful”
. The soldiers have been operating at their positions since the summer of 2025, and their artillery can cover a larger area with fire than drones. “Artillery can operate more intensively than drones because launching multiple drones at once requires many operators,” explains 'Luka.'

In this way, the artillerymen of the 5th Slobozhanska Brigade 'Skif' continue to defend Ukraine’s interests in the Kupiansk sector, applying their knowledge and experience to achieve success in combat operations.

The activities of the 5th Slobozhanska Brigade 'Skif' in the Kupiansk sector underscore the importance of artillery in modern warfare, especially amid the ongoing confrontation in eastern Ukraine. The use of artillery, capable of delivering sustained fire, reflects a strategy aimed at maximizing the effectiveness of firepower against the enemy. The brigade’s operations demonstrate how crucial it is to adapt to new challenges on the front line, particularly through cooperation and the exchange of experience among service members.
