The largest coal mine in Ukraine has halted operations: reason.
The company 'Metinvest' has suspended the operations of the 'Pokrovsk' mine management in Donetsk due to the approach of hostilities. The mine, which specializes in the extraction of coking coal for the metallurgical industry, is the largest in Ukraine. Currently, the mine is close to the fighting areas near Pokrovsk.
The company has reported that the suspension of operations has become necessary due to the deteriorating security situation. The frontline is approaching the mine, leading to increased shelling. The main personnel and their families have been evacuated from the mine, but production at other company enterprises continues.
The company, together with the city military administration and representatives of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, is monitoring the security situation. Decisions regarding the continuation of operations will be made taking into account the developments on the front.
The mine near Pokrovsk is the largest supplier of coking coal in Ukraine. Coal reserves amount to 200 million tons, and production for 2023 was 5.6 million tons.
The losses of Russian occupiers in the Pokrovsk direction remain high. According to Commander of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi, the Pokrovsk direction remains one of the most challenging in the context of confrontation. The enemy loses about 400 people killed and wounded daily.
Ukrainian forces have regained lost positions near Svatove, while Russian troops continue to advance in the Kursk region and other directions.
