Mercenaries, not career soldiers: Reuters learned whether the captured Chinese have any relation to the Chinese government.
According to Reuters, China knows that its officers are in the rear of the Russian army. They are mercenaries for the Kremlin and have received permission from Beijing to be in Russian positions to study warfare tactics.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that two Chinese fighters have already been captured, and in total, about 155 citizens of China are fighting in Ukraine. However, China assured that it is not participating in the war and accused Zelensky of irresponsible statements.
At the same time, American intelligence claims that Chinese mercenaries have a negligible influence on the course of hostilities and are poorly trained.
Testimonies from a former Western intelligence officer indicate that approximately 200 Chinese mercenaries are fighting on Russia's side, but China has no direct connection to them, unlike its officers.
China does not condemn Russia's invasion of Ukraine, announcing a 'limitless partnership' with Russia, but claims it is not a party to the war. At the same time, China supplies Moscow with dual-use goods for servicing weapons, including drones and tanks.
Additionally, China has supplied Russia with attack drones for use on the battlefield; the administration of Joe Biden has imposed sanctions on two Chinese companies that supplied weapons to Moscow.
Earlier, former U.S. President Donald Trump shocked the world with a statement about China's involvement in the war against Ukraine.
