Gaza photo plastered on Picasso painting. Activists detained in London gallery.
Activists glued a photograph of a mother with a child onto a Picasso painting
In London, activists of the Demand movement staged a protest in the National Gallery. They glued a photograph of a mother with an injured child onto Pablo Picasso's painting "Maternity". The news is reported by the Daily Mail.
According to the publication, two protesters entered the gallery room and glued the photograph onto the painting's protective glass. After that, they poured red paint on the floor and showed their stained hands.
The photograph by Palestinian photojournalist Ali Jadallah depicts a mother with an injured child amidst the debris in the Gaza Strip. The activists were detained by police on suspicion of causing intentional property damage.
A National Gallery spokesperson stated that none of the paintings were damaged, but the police closed the premises for a while to establish the circumstances.
Recall, earlier activists from the Just Stop Oil movement also staged a protest by pouring paint on Vincent Van Gogh's paintings. This happened after a verdict against two activists who are already in prison following a previous protest against the artist's work.
