Summer Travel Boom on Ukraine's Western Border

According to Novyny.live: As summer begins, the number of travelers crossing into Poland from Ukraine's Lviv region has risen sharply. According to Svitlana Burda, spokesperson for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, the influx at the western border is projected to increase by 20% in June. On weekends, over 90,000 people now pass through daily, highlighting a surge in international travel during this period.

Checkpoint Delays and Wait Times

Delays vary significantly depending on the checkpoint. The longest queues are forming at these crossing points:

  • Krakovets
  • Shehyni
  • Yahodyn

In contrast, the 'Smilnytsia' and 'Nyzhanovychi' checkpoints report the shortest wait times, making them more appealing for those planning to cross the border.

Since May 20, border crossing rules for female service members have been simplified, a change that could further influence traffic patterns. Burda noted that

“according to border guards' estimates, the flow of people at the western border could increase by 20% over the summer.”
These developments require travelers to stay alert and plan their journeys carefully.

Which checkpoints should you choose when traveling from Lviv region to Poland? Based on current data, travelers are advised to consider 'Smilnytsia' and 'Nyzhanovychi,' which offer faster passage, while those using 'Krakovets,' 'Shehyni,' and 'Yahodyn' should prepare for longer waits.

The growing number of travelers on Ukraine's western border, especially after the eased rules for female service members, signals a rebound in international trips following the pandemic. It may also reflect an improving regional economy, as more people can afford to travel abroad. Travelers should plan ahead, keeping in mind potential delays at various checkpoints, to avoid discomfort during border crossings.
