Netherlands Introduces €49 Unlimited Train Pass: A Smart Way to Cut Travel Costs.
Meet the 'Nederland Dal Vrij Trein' Ticket
According to Novyny.live: Starting June 15, 2024, the Netherlands is rolling out a new special ticket called 'Nederland Dal Vrij Trein,' designed for budget-friendly summer travel during off-peak hours. This pass offers unlimited second-class journeys on all domestic trains across the country, valid during non-peak times and on weekends.
Priced at €49 per month, the ticket can be purchased either at ticket machines or online. First-time users will be able to use it until July 31, 2024. The national railway operator, Nederlandse Spoorwegen (NS), will handle sales and distribution.
Goals and Benefits of the Initiative
Annet Bertram, the State Secretary for Public Transport and Railway Infrastructure in the Netherlands, announced that starting June 15, everyone will have the chance to travel by train at a reduced fare during low-demand hours. This initiative aims to make rail travel more affordable for the public, encouraging greater use of public transport when it is less crowded.
'The Nederland Dal Vrij Trein will be a convenient option for those planning summer trips, helping them save on transportation costs.' Annet Bertram, State Secretary for Public Transport and Railway Infrastructure, Netherlands
The introduction of the 'Nederland Dal Vrij Trein' ticket is part of the Netherlands' broader strategy to promote eco-friendly transport and ease pressure on the rail network during peak hours. With train travel gaining popularity, this move could attract new passengers who previously preferred driving. As a result, the project has the potential to positively impact the country's environmental footprint by reducing carbon emissions from car traffic.
