Birthrate in Ukraine has dropped to a record low - Ministry of Social Policy.
The number of births in Ukraine has fallen to a minimum level following Russia's aggression. There is an average of 0.9 children per woman, which is the lowest figure in the country. This is reported by 'Glavkom' citing 'Ukrinform'.
At a conference on the strategy for the population recovery of Ukraine, it was noted that the international indicator is 2.2 children per woman, while the average across the EU is 1.5.
Before the war, the birthrate was 1.16, and now it is record low.
The low birthrate, combined with migration, is causing rapid aging of the population. In recent years, the average age of Ukrainians has increased from 41 to 45 years.
Marchak called for addressing aging issues to postpone it as long as possible.
According to a report from the Ministry of Justice, in 2024 mortality in Ukraine exceeded births. There were 495.09 thousand recorded deaths and only 176.78 thousand births.
In February of this year, six sets of twins were born in Kyiv region. During the entire month, 252 boys and 241 girls were born in Kyiv region.
