The EU country that has become the leader in the number of asylum applications.
In the first quarter of 2025, Germany dropped to third place among EU countries where asylum seekers most often apply for residence. Currently, France holds the first place with over 40,000 applications, Spain takes the second place with more than 39,000 applications, while Germany is in third place with over 37,000 applications. During this period, the number of applications submitted in Germany decreased by 41%. The largest share consists of applications from Venezuela, Afghanistan, and Syria. It is also worth noting the increase in the number of applications submitted by Ukrainian citizens, which amounts to 84%. It is important to remind that in the case of a ceasefire in Ukraine, Ukrainian refugees in the EU may lose their refugee status.
