The Deputy Head of the Unit for Emergency Response Organization of the SES in Kyiv region, Vitaliy Farenyk, reported that the most dangerous mined areas at present are Vyshgorodskyi, Brovarskyi and Buchanskyi districts.

Active work on demining is underway, but this process may take several years as new reports of suspicious objects continue to arrive.

«Currently, this demining is active. As a result of the occupation of Kyiv region, there are still mined areas, for example, Buchanskyi, Vyshgorodskyi and Brovarskyi districts - these are the most dangerous areas. This work continues. I believe it will take years, as we still receive relevant applications and reports and continue to find explosive remnants dating back to World War II», - said Farenyk.

Ukraine needs $29.8 billion for demining territories, as this process will take decades.

The authors of the article call for building long-term institutional capacity and developing partnerships with international organizations dealing with mine action.

Currently, about 140,000 sq. km of Ukrainian territory is potentially contaminated with mines and explosives.

The Cabinet of Ministers allowed the disposal of munitions and explosive items directly at the demining site.

Since the beginning of 2024, Ukrainian sappers have cleared 157 thousand hectares of agricultural land of explosive items.
