Deadly Attack on Zaporizhzhia: June 22, 2023
According to UATV: On the night of June 22, 2023, Russian forces launched a drone assault on the city of Zaporizhzhia. The attack claimed the lives of two women and left nine people wounded, among them an 11-year-old boy. Two private homes were completely destroyed by fire, while more than 15 others sustained damage. This strike is part of a broader pattern of escalating violence in the region, where civilian areas continue to come under fire.
The assault began around 11:00 PM and extended into the following day. One of the drones slammed into the wall of a house, triggering a powerful explosion. In total, three people were killed and ten were injured during the attack. Russian troops targeted 42 settlements across the Zaporizhzhia region over the same period.
Local Residents Share Harrowing Accounts
Eyewitnesses described the terror of the moment.
“We were just about to go to sleep when the drone buzzed, then came the blast. Smoke, dust, fire... The doors jammed, so we had to climb out through the windows. My wife is in the hospital with broken ribs and shrapnel wounds,” recounted Volodymyr. Another resident, Heorhii, added:“I was about to lie down when suddenly there was this huge bang. I threw myself onto the carpet and covered my head. The window glass blew out right above my bed.”This attack marks another phase of escalation in the ongoing conflict, as Russian forces continue to strike civilian infrastructure. The tragedy has deepened anxiety among local residents, who bear the brunt of the war's consequences.
The situation in Zaporizhzhia and across Ukraine remains tense, with hostilities persisting and civilian populations suffering severe losses. This assault underscores the humanitarian toll of the conflict, which affects the lives of thousands.
