Russia Launches Drone Attack on Ukraine

According to Novyny.live: In an overnight assault, Russian forces targeted Ukraine with a wave of attack drones. The attack began at 6:30 PM on February 14th and continued into the early hours of February 15th, involving a total of 83 unmanned aerial vehicles. Approximately 50 of these were Shahed-type drones, launched from multiple locations including Millerovo, Bryansk, Primorsko-Akhtarsk in Russia, and from within the occupied territory of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea. This sustained barrage is part of a broader campaign of air attacks that has intensified in recent months.

Ukrainian air defense forces managed to destroy or neutralize 55 of the hostile drones by 8:00 AM. Despite this defensive effort, 25 attack drones struck targets across 12 different locations, with falling debris from intercepted drones recorded in three additional areas. The strikes resulted in casualties, with one person killed and seven others wounded in the Zaporizhzhia region.

The attack underscores Russia's continued military aggression against Ukraine, demonstrating that even robust air defense, while critically important, cannot always prevent all casualties and damage from these massed assaults.

Ongoing Conflict and Technological Warfare

This drone strike is part of the wider Russian military campaign against Ukraine, which began with the full-scale invasion in February 2022. The extensive use of unmanned systems highlights a shift in modern warfare tactics, where relatively inexpensive drone technology plays a central role in offensive operations. For Ukraine, maintaining and strengthening its air defense capabilities remains a vital and ongoing challenge to mitigate the impact of future attacks.
