Germany and France to Tighten Grip on Shadow Fleet: Vessel Seizures on the Horizon.
The Franco-German Parliamentary Assembly (FGPA)
According to Espreso.tv: On June 22, the Franco-German Parliamentary Assembly (FGPA) is set to adopt a draft resolution calling for stricter oversight and the detention of vessels operating outside the law. Lawmakers at the assembly will debate the urgency of this issue in light of current challenges in maritime policy.
Backing the Initiative
Supporters of the measure include deputies from Germany’s CDU/CSU, SPD, and the Greens. They have stressed the need for stepped-up diplomatic efforts targeting the flag states under which shadow-fleet vessels sail. This growing focus on maritime law violations highlights the critical role of international cooperation in addressing the problem.
If passed, the resolution could significantly reshape European maritime policy, especially in combating illegal activities on the high seas. Enhancing controls over rogue ships would mark a major step toward greater security and stability in the region, while also paving the way for more effective cross-border collaboration on maritime governance.
