Norway registers cases of infection with a new monkeypox strain.
A new strain of monkeypox virus detected in Norway
In Norway, two patients were found to have a new strain of the monkeypox virus (mpox), which began spreading this summer. Reuters reports this, citing the Oslo municipality.
It is noted that strain 2 is a less severe form of viral pox than strain 1b. Currently, authorities are investigating if there is a connection between these two cases.
Recall, the World Health Organization approved a vaccine from Bavarian Nordic as the first vaccine against monkeypox, now known as mpox.
The vaccine, which is a two-dose injection for people aged 18 and over, can also be used for infants and children, as well as for pregnant women and individuals with weakened immunity in cases where benefits outweigh potential risks.
By the way, since the start of the monkeypox outbreak in 2022, Spain has recorded 8104 cases of infection, setting a record in Europe. Europa Press reports this, citing information from the country's Ministry of Health. Among Spanish cities, Madrid (2770 cases) and Catalonia (2452 cases) were leaders in the number of infections.
