Ukraine Receives Over Ten NASAMS Air Defense Systems from Norway, Zelenskyy Confirms.
Norway's Military Support for Ukraine
According to UATV: Norway continues to bolster Ukraine's military capabilities by supplying NASAMS air defense systems. To date, the country has delivered more than ten of these systems, with further deliveries ongoing. This assistance is crucial for strengthening Ukraine's defensive posture against modern aerial threats. NASAMS is a highly regarded system, developed jointly by Norway and the United States, known for its ability to counter a range of airborne targets.
In addition to the launchers and command units, Norway has also provided the missiles required for the NASAMS systems to operate effectively.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated: 'Norwegian NASAMS systems have been a great help to us. I will not specify the exact number of NASAMS we have, but it is more than ten, and we continue to receive them.'This underscores the significant role Norwegian support plays in safeguarding Ukrainian airspace.
Norway's Role in International Cooperation
Beyond direct military aid, Norway is the second-largest contributor to the PURL program, highlighting its active role in international defense cooperation. The country is also involved in joint drone production initiatives, demonstrating its commitment to supporting Ukraine across various domains of military technology. This collaboration, including work on IRIS-T systems, reflects Norway's strategic approach to deepening its defense partnership with Ukraine.
By intensifying its military support, Norway demonstrates a strategic interest in technology exchange and enhancing the defensive capabilities of its regional partners. The NASAMS system, already proven effective in several nations under modern combat conditions, has become a key component in defending Ukraine's skies. Norway's sustained backing further emphasizes the vital importance of international cooperation for strengthening European security.
