Norway Pledges €260 Million for Ukraine’s Air Defense: New Patriot Missiles on the Way.
Norway’s Continued Support for Ukraine
According to UATV: Norway is committing an additional €260 million to strengthen Ukraine’s air defense capabilities. The funding will be used to acquire new missiles for Patriot systems and to enhance protection against ballistic threats. This decision is part of Norway’s broader commitment to Ukraine’s fight for security—a matter that Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre stressed is vital for the safety of all Europe.
Between 2023 and 2025, Norway has already provided Ukraine with 30 billion Norwegian kroner to bolster its air defense. Additional funding for these efforts is also planned for 2026. To ensure rapid delivery, Norway intends to purchase missiles from countries that already have them in service, allowing for a swift reinforcement of Ukraine’s defensive posture.
Collaboration with International Allies
In parallel, Norway—alongside Denmark, Germany, and Canada—will place orders for new Patriot system missiles with a U.S. manufacturer. This joint effort falls under the PURL program, through which NATO coordinates funding and delivery of advanced weaponry to Ukraine.
“Ukraine’s fight for its own defense is also our fight.” — Jonas Gahr Støre
Norway’s ongoing contributions highlight international solidarity on defense and security issues, a theme that has become especially pressing amid today’s global challenges.
This latest move underscores the critical role of international support for Ukraine amid the ongoing armed conflict and the threats facing European security. Strengthening air defense is essential for protecting Ukrainian airspace and reducing risks from ballistic attacks. Furthermore, collaboration with other NATO members reflects growing coordination and shared commitments among allies in the defense sector.
