According to ТСН: The Russian armed forces conducted a large-scale attack on Ukraine from the evening of January 12 to the morning of January 13, using rockets of various types and drones. Hits were recorded at 24 locations. As a result of the enemy strikes, energy infrastructure and residential buildings were damaged, leaving an entire city without electricity. There is also information about dead and wounded.

Around midnight on January 13, the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported drone attacks from Russia. Two hours later, they confirmed the launch of ballistic missiles. Observers noted that the occupiers are striking energy facilities in the Dnipropetrovsk, Kharkiv, and Zaporizhzhia regions.

Attack on Kharkiv

Explosions were heard at night in Kharkiv. According to reports from Mayor Igor Terekhov and the head of the OVA Oleg Synehubov, the epicenter of the strikes was in the nearby suburb, where a fire broke out after the attack.

In particular, a children's sanatorium in the Shevchenkivskyi district of Kharkiv was hit by a Shahed drone.

According to Synehubov, the occupiers also struck the Slobidskyi and Nemishlianskyi districts of the city. A children's sanatorium and a vehicle were damaged.

In the Kharkiv region, the terminal of Nova Poshta, a gas station, and vehicles (in the village of Novyi Korytych) sustained damage, as well as another gas station (in the city of Derhachi) and two private houses (in the village of Ruska Lozova).

The State Emergency Service (SES) reported that due to the strike on the postal terminal area in suburban Kharkiv, buildings were destroyed, and several fire outbreaks occurred over an area of about 500 square meters. Rescuers saved 30 people, two of whom were pulled from under the rubble.

As a result of the attacks, four people were killed, and another six sustained injuries of varying severity.

Attack on Odesa

Explosions also occurred at night in Odesa: the city faced two waves of Russian drone attacks.

In the central part, residential buildings and social infrastructure facilities were damaged: a hospital, kindergarten, and school. Operational headquarters and municipal services are working at the strike locations.

Fires broke out in an uninhabited newly-built structure, a fitness center, a vocational college, and a garage with a passenger car.

The facades and glazing of six apartment buildings and a kindergarten were damaged, as well as two garages and nine vehicles.

SES psychologists provided assistance to 14 individuals, including one child.

Five individuals are reported to be injured and are receiving treatment.

Hostile strikes in Odesa also damaged two energy facilities of DTEK, leaving about 47 thousand families without electricity. Restoration requires time due to significant destruction.

Attack on Kryvyi Rih and the region

On the evening of January 12, Russian troops attacked Kryvyi Rih with drones, while in the Zelenodolsk community, they targeted infrastructure with ballistic missiles and drones, causing a fire. Two private homes and a gas pipeline were damaged, and a 69-year-old woman sustained injuries.

In Kryvyi Rih, efforts are ongoing to eliminate the consequences of the attacks, with all services, public transport, hospitals, and social institutions operational.

In the Nikopol region, the occupiers used FPV drones to attack Nikopol, Marhanets, Pokrovsk, and the Chervonohryhorivska community, resulting in damage to private homes, power lines, and vehicles.

Attack on the DTEK power station

DTEK reported a Russian attack on their power station on January 12, which resulted in significant equipment damage. This is the eighth massive attack on the company's power stations since October 2022.

Attack on the Zhytomyr region

During the night of January 13, the Russian army again attacked the Korosten and Zvyagel districts of the Zhytomyr region, critically damaging infrastructure.

Rescuers are working to extinguish fires caused by the strikes. Special services are checking the area for the presence of explosive devices.

Due to the security situation, some suburban trains in Zhytomyr region are temporarily suspended on January 13.

In the morning of January 13, a massive air alert was declared in Ukraine due to a combined attack: about 30 strike UAVs were recorded in the air over Sumy, Chernihiv, and Kyiv regions.

Attack on Kyiv and the region

On the morning of January 13, the enemy attacked Kyiv with ballistic missiles, while Russian forces also struck Kyiv region at night, but without casualties.

  • A fire broke out in a private residential building in the Vyshhorod region.

  • In the Brovary region, three private homes were damaged — windows were shattered, and facades were damaged; a vehicle and a temporary structure were also affected.

  • A farm building caught fire in the Fastiv region.

Rescuers, energy workers, and municipal services are working at the sites. Specialists are eliminating the aftermath of the strike, recording the destruction, and providing assistance to the victims.

Critically important facilities in the region have been switched to backup power sources and are operating normally.

Due to damage to infrastructure in part of the Bucha region, emergency power outages have been implemented. Emergency electricity supply restrictions remain in place in the Brovary and Boryspil regions. Other communities in the region adhere to stabilization schedules.

The Irpin community has been left without electricity since the night due to the attack amid severe frosts. The city authorities are negotiating with DTEK leadership regarding the restoration of electricity supply.

“I appeal to all leaders of critical infrastructure: we are working in an intensified mode! SES, water supply, medical services, and other services,” emphasized Irpin Mayor Oleksandr Markushyn.

Despite the challenging situation, the authorities assure that the community continues to function, and all necessary decisions are made on the spot.

Part of the settlement of Kotsiubynske has remained without heating since the night, as one boiler house is non-operational, while others operate intermittently due to the need for generator rest.

What the RF used to strike Ukraine and how the Air Defense worked

During the attack on Ukraine, the Russian army launched:

  • 18 ballistic missiles of the "Iskander-M"/exocet-guided missiles S-300;

  • 7 missiles of "Iskander-K";

  • 293 strike drones of the "Shahed" type (200 units), "Herbera," and other types.

“Ballistic strikes were delivered from four locations across Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipropetrovsk, and Kyiv regions,” reported the Air Forces of Ukraine.

The Air Defense shot down/suppressed 247 enemy targets:

  • 2 ballistic missiles of "Iskander-M";

  • 5 cruise missiles of "Iskander-K";

  • 240 drones.

Aerial targets were shot down in the north, south, east, and center of the country. Meanwhile, hits by ballistic/anti-aircraft missiles and 48 strike drones were recorded at 24 locations.

Zelensky's reaction to the attack

Commenting on another enemy attack, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky noted that the main target of the strike is energy: generation, substations.

“Many destructions affect residential and civilian infrastructure. Dnipro region, Zhytomyr region, Zaporizhzhia, Kyiv region, Odesa region, Sumy region, Kharkiv region, Donetsk region were under attack,” wrote the head of state on social media.

He confirmed that the occupiers struck with missiles at the postal terminal in Korytych in Kharkiv region, where four people were killed. The situation in Kyiv region remains complicated: several hundred thousand families are without electricity.

“Every such strike against life is a reminder that support for Ukraine must not stop. Missiles for the Air Defense system are needed every day, especially during winter. The world can respond to this terror with new aid packages. We expect to speed up supplies of what has already been agreed with America and Europe. Russia must understand that cold will not help win the war,” emphasized Zelensky.
