Oreshnik - new Russian weapon?

Analysts from the Ukrainian agency Defense Express respond to Vladimir Putin's statement about the new missile 'Oreshnik', claiming that this could simply be a name change for an already existing missile. Russia had previously not announced the creation of such a missile, but dual names in their army are a common practice. Analysts cite the example of the X-101 missile, which also has the name 'Product 504'. According to their opinion, this 'doubling' may have a psychological impact on the West to create the impression of new missile capabilities of the Russian Federation.

Experts remind that earlier Russian media also spoke about the missile 'Zmeevik' and its project, but there were no additional details about this project in the public sphere. Likely, it was a guise for the real developments of the Russian Federation regarding ballistic missiles.

Analysts urge not to use the name 'Oreshnik' for this missile to avoid giving Putin the opportunity to blackmail the world with 'strategic uncertainty'.

It should be noted that the missile 'Oreshnik' was used by the Russian Federation in an attack on Dnipro on November 21. Putin stated that this is just a 'test launch' of a new weapon that does not have a nuclear charge.

The use of such a missile is a response to the plans of the USA to create and deploy intermediate and shorter-range missiles. CNN's analysis shows that the Russian Federation may have only a few such missiles.

This is the first Time Russian troops have conducted a ballistic missile strike on Dnipro, reported the Center for Strategic Communications of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
