Ford Transit sets record at the Nürburgring: electric van outpaces supercars

Ford has broken its own record at the Nürburgring track, but this was achieved not with a high-speed supercar, but with the electric version of the Ford Transit called SuperVan 4.2. Professional driver Romain Dumas completed the lap in 6 minutes and 48 seconds, four seconds faster than Ford's previous record.

This van has proven to be faster than such esteemed sports cars as the Corvette ZR1X, Porsche 911 GT3 RS, and Lamborghini Aventador SVJ. The current world record holder, the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series, was left behind by just half a second.

The idea of conducting such a run arose in the company after Top Gear in 2005 when Sabine Schmitz attempted to showcase the capabilities of a regular Transit. “It became a dream for many of us to push the Transit to its limits at Nürburgring. And here we are – the right vehicle, a professional driver, and perfect conditions,” said Ford's program manager for demonstration vehicles, Michael Norton.

The SuperVan 4.2 was first introduced over a year ago as an extreme version of the Transit. The first version had three electric motors with a combined output of 1428 hp and could reach speeds of up to 240 km/h, but now a version with four electric motors, with a total power of around 2000 hp and improved aerodynamics, is in use.

Ford has also hinted that this is not the end, and they plan to set many more records at Nürburgring.

In the new run, Ford surpassed itself, demonstrating how fast an ordinary commercial vehicle can be on the famous racetrack. The record showcases the impressive capabilities of technology and electrification in the automotive industry, as well as positions Ford as an innovative and forward-thinking automotive company. The hard work of the team and cutting-edge technologies in the hands of professionals can achieve incredible results that impress not only experts but also ordinary car racing enthusiasts.
