Russia deploys new drone with LTE communication: what threats it poses and how to counteract

Recently, Russian troops have been actively using a new drone with wireless high-speed communication and the capability for remote control in various directions on the front. The main characteristics of this new development by the Russian occupiers were discussed by the founder of the charity fund 'Close the Sky of Ukraine', Lieutenant General Ihor Romanenko in a program on the FREEДOM channel.

'Unfortunately, [the new UAV with LTE communication and remote control capabilities that Russia is using] is very versatile. It features new elements such as a camera and control, meaning that the operator observes the scene first, and then based on the visuals, this device is directed. You see, it is very multifaceted. It can be used both as a scout and as [a means] of information transmission, and [as a strike UAV],' he noted.

The expert emphasized that this drone can have various functions depending on its equipment, making it more universal and increasing the effectiveness of its use.

'Currently, the Russians are conducting combat tests of it. The question now is regarding scaling. We remember that their economy has been switched to military rails for about two years already, and as for scaling, they can implement such an approach quite quickly, but for now, this is essentially a preliminary stage,' concluded Ihor Romanenko.

Recall that the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) General Oleksandr Syrskyi reported that over the course of a year, Ukrainian helicopters shot down more than 3,200 Russian drones of the 'Shahed' type.
