Attack on a Train in Kharkiv Region

According to Novyny.live: Russian forces struck a commuter train in the Kharkiv region during the night of March 14. The train driver and his assistant suffered shrapnel injuries from the attack, while passengers aboard escaped unharmed. The diesel locomotive, which was in use due to a lack of power in the overhead contact line, sustained damage.

In a separate incident on March 13, Russian troops targeted a scheduled bus in the same region, killing the 53-year-old driver and wounding three other people. Furthermore, on March 12, the Russian military attacked railway infrastructure in the Sumy and Mykolaiv regions, damaging diesel locomotives, tracks, and a station building. These attacks highlight the ongoing threat to civilian transport networks in eastern Ukraine.

Regional Situation

Despite the strikes, evacuation of passengers due to the threat of shelling and infrastructure damage, trains operated by Ukrainian Railways (Ukrzaliznytsia) continue to run, according to Oleksiy Kuleba. The situation in the region remains tense, and attacks on railway transport are causing concern among the public.

These events underscore the continuation of military hostilities in eastern Ukraine, which are impacting civilian infrastructure and public safety. Assaults on transportation means such as trains and buses pose serious challenges for people who rely on these services for mobility. At the same time, despite the danger, Ukrzaliznytsia persists in carrying out its functions, demonstrating efforts to ensure citizen mobility under difficult conditions. This incident may also serve as an additional argument for the international community regarding the need to strengthen support for Ukraine amid the conflict.
