Nine Arrested in Odesa as Police Bust Major Fraud Ring Using Fake Call Centers.
Massive Fraud Operation Uncovered in Odesa
According to Novyny.live: Authorities in Odesa have dismantled a large-scale fraud scheme that operated through bogus call centers. Scammers would call victims, impersonating employees from various organizations, and under the pretense of offering assistance, trick them into installing malicious software. As a result, people lost significant sums of money, highlighting the severity of this criminal enterprise.
During the investigation, nine members of the criminal group were arrested. In total, 13 individuals have been named as suspects in connection with the scheme. Those involved face up to 12 years in prison along with asset forfeiture, underscoring the serious legal consequences of their actions.
Additional Fraud Cases
Separately, as part of the broader probe, a woman is suspected of committing fraud involving a municipal apartment, causing damages of nearly one million hryvnias. Additionally, a man was detained for conning a woman out of $12,500 by falsely claiming her son had been detained. These incidents illustrate the wide range of deceptive tactics criminals use to exploit citizens.
Given the scale and nature of the fraud, law enforcement agencies are continuing their investigation to identify all individuals involved and to prevent similar crimes in the future.
This situation underscores the growing problem of fraud in Ukraine, especially as criminals increasingly leverage technology for illicit purposes. While authorities work to address these emerging threats, citizens are urged to remain vigilant and exercise caution when interacting with strangers to avoid falling victim to such schemes.
