Forecast for Rising Water Levels in Odesa Region Rivers

According to Novyny.live: Emergency services have declared a yellow-level danger alert for the Odesa region due to a forecast of rising river levels until February 25th. This warning is prompted by a combination of thawing snow and precipitation, which increases the risk of flooding in low-lying coastal areas. Such alerts are part of Ukraine's multi-tiered system for warning the public about hydrological hazards.

Rivers at Risk of Overflowing

Several rivers are at particular risk of overflowing their banks. The Savranka and Kodyma rivers are expected to spill into their floodplains. The Savranka is a tributary of the Southern Bug, while the Kodyma flows towards the Mykolaiv region. Significant water level increases are also anticipated on the following waterways:

  • Velyka Vyska
  • Chorny Tashlyk
  • Mertvovod
  • Inhul
  • Southern Bug
  • Udach
  • Lopan
  • Merla
  • Siverskyi Donets
  • sub-basin of the Prypiat River

Earlier this week, localized flooding was already reported in the Berezivskyi, Rozdilnianskyi, and Podilskyi districts. In these areas, rescue teams have been actively pumping out water using motor pumps and specialized equipment. With conditions remaining tense, local services continue to monitor water levels closely and are implementing measures to prevent further damage to property and infrastructure.

The rising water levels are a direct result of the current weather patterns, including the thaw and ongoing rainfall. Rescue units have mobilized to identify and mitigate the effects of flooding, demonstrating the local authorities' preparedness for emergency response. Continuous monitoring of the river systems will be maintained to minimize potential risks to residents and critical infrastructure in the region.
