Cucumbers and tomatoes have increased in price by 66%: reasons for the sharp price jump

According to inkorr.com: Recently, Ukrainians witnessed a sharp increase in vegetable prices: cucumbers have risen by 66%, and tomatoes by 51%. This happened due to the cold snap, which led to a reduction in the number of greenhouse vegetables on the market.

According to information from EastFruit.

Due to unfavorable weather conditions, the supply of cucumbers from local greenhouses has decreased almost fivefold. Currently, prices for greenhouse cucumbers range from 65 to 80 hryvnias per kilogram, while in supermarkets they start from 100 hryvnias per kilogram.

Tomatoes have also risen in price due to limited supply and high demand. Prices for greenhouse tomatoes fluctuate between 50-60 hryvnias per kilogram, which is on average 51% more than at the end of last week.

Thus, the reduction in the number of greenhouse vegetables against the backdrop of stable demand has led to a record increase in prices for cucumbers and tomatoes.

The rate of increase in vegetable prices has raised concerns among consumers who are already feeling the effects of price fluctuations. In conditions of instability in the food market, it is important to monitor the situation and the impact of weather factors on the agricultural sector. The further development of events is likely to depend on the restoration of production and changes in climatic conditions.
