Olaf Scholz: Putin's decision on the war was made two years before the invasion.
Olaf Scholz's speech on the war in Ukraine
According to TSN.ua: Former German Chancellor Olaf Scholz stated that the Kremlin's decision to go to war against Ukraine was made before the start of the invasion. Speaking in Berlin during the presentation of his book 'Das Versagen', Scholz claims that Russian President Vladimir Putin planned the attack two years before the actual invasion.
Scholz emphasized that Russia could have realized its demands without war, but in his opinion, this indicates that Putin truly desired conflict.
“Today I am firmly convinced that Putin planned his attack two years in advance, and very little could have deterred him from doing so,” Scholz noted. He also added:
“This means that he wanted war.”
The significance of military support for Ukraine
Furthermore, Scholz defended the pace of arms supply to Ukraine, highlighting the importance of support in wartime. He noted that the European Union seeks to initiate a peaceful resolution to the situation in Ukraine; however, the realities on the battlefield require adequate actions to protect the sovereignty of the Ukrainian state.
Scholz's statements underscore the duration and predictability of Russia's aggressive policy, raising concerns in the international community. His comments could also impact the ongoing provision of military support for Ukraine, as Western countries continue to assess their strategic actions in response to Russian aggression.
