In the Ternopil region, ophthalmologists blinded 18 patients: the prosecution demands their suspension.
Prosecutors in the Ternopil region have filed a request with the court to suspend four ophthalmologists from their positions. They are accused of improper performance of professional duties, which led to serious consequences for patients, bribery, and negligence.
According to the investigation, it was found that over the course of a year, three doctors injected patients with a prohibited drug at the direction of the head of the department. Patients were charged between 8,000 and 34,000 hryvnias for this 'treatment'. As a result, 18 individuals were harmed: 15 lost sight in one eye, three were blinded in both eyes, and seven had to undergo eye removal surgery.
Nearly 900,000 hryvnias were spent on the treatment of the victims at the expense of the state. The criminal proceedings in this case are currently ongoing in the Chortkiv District Court. Prosecutors are demanding temporary suspension of the suspects from their positions due to the risk of influencing staff and patients.
