According to inkorr.com: In Ukraine, it has been clarified who is entitled to a pension in the case of losing a breadwinner. According to information from the press service of the Pension Fund of Ukraine (PFU), children who have lost military parents can receive a pension in accordance with the current legislation on pension provision.
Who is entitled to a pension:
- Family members who are unable to earn a living and were dependent on the deceased military;
- Children receive a pension automatically, even if they did not financially depend on their parents;
- Adult children up to 23 years old who are studying full-time;
- Orphaned children up to 23 years old (regardless of education);
- Children with disabilities of any age, if the disability was established before the age of 18.
The pension is determined based on the monetary provision of the deceased military.
Amount of payments
In case of death while fulfilling duties:
- To one child – 70% of the breadwinner's salary;
- To two or more children – 50% each.
In case of death due to an accident not related to service:

- Each family member entitled to a pension receives it separately.
Additional payments
The families of fallen veterans and defenders of Ukraine (with the appropriate certificate) receive an additional payment of 25% of the subsistence minimum for disabled persons:
- If the pension is less than 7,800 UAH, a targeted supplement to this amount is provided;
- If two or more children receive a pension, each is guaranteed a payment of 6,100 UAH.
Procedure for pension registration
The procedure for applying depends on the status of the deceased at the time of death:
- If the serviceman was not a pensioner: you need to contact the military unit where he served. This body collects all documents and submits them to the Pension Fund;
- If the military was receiving a pension: you can immediately contact the local PFU office or submit documents through the online portal of electronic services.
Features for minors:
- The application for pension appointment for children under 18 is submitted by their legal representative (usually one of the parents).
