Pensions in Ukraine - how many people are below the poverty line

The majority of Ukrainian pensioners have too low income, which is not enough even for the essentials. This has become a big problem for many.

Pension poverty - a serious issue

As Oleg Popenko noted, approximately 8.5 million pensioners in Ukraine have an income that is insufficient even for the simplest things.

'The average pension in Ukraine is less than 5 thousand hryvnias for 8.5 million people. This is not enough even for minimal survival', he emphasized.

Popenko highlighted that calculations from the Ministry of Social Policy indicate that it is necessary to spend over 7 thousand hryvnias per month to live decently, without accounting for housing rent. However, pensions do not meet these requirements, forcing people to choose between food, medicine, and utilities.

It is worth noting that the Pension Fund of Ukraine warned that in 2025, some citizens who will be at the 60-year mark may not have the opportunity to receive a pension due to insufficient insurance experience.

Earlier, we reported that disabled individuals would be able to receive pensions based on health conditions, depending on the disability group: I, II, or III.

Pension poverty in Ukraine has become a serious social challenge, as many pensioners have insufficient payments that do not allow them to live with dignity. Low pensions affect the health and quality of life of citizens, which requires effective measures from the government and social services to improve the situation.
