The Turnover in the AI World: How DeepSeek Became the Main Threat to Tech Corporations.
The Chinese company DeepSeek has created the AI model R1, which is causing panic among tech giants. DeepSeek was founded in China and employs former Tencent employees and specialists from Zhejiang University.
The R1 model impresses with its results and was created faster and for less money than its Western counterparts. Only 2000 old Nvidia graphic processors were used for its creation, which is significantly less than what was needed for training Western analogs.
DeepSeek's founder, Liang Wenfeng, emphasized that their team focused on a simplified development process, and in most cases, the success of AI does not depend on the large amount of funds spent on it.
These achievements of DeepSeek open up new opportunities for small companies and less developed countries, but also cast doubt on the necessity of large investments and computational resources for creating quality AI models.
The emergence of DeepSeek has caused concern in the USA, and shares of Nvidia, Microsoft, and Alphabet have significantly fallen in value. US President Donald Trump announced the launch of the 'Stargate Initiative' worth 500 billion dollars to strengthen the US's leadership in the field of AI. The founder of xAI and Trump's advisor, Elon Musk, called for increased regulation of Chinese AI models, while OpenAI's CEO Sam Altman praised DeepSeek for their economic approach.
Experts point out that the market's reaction is excessive, and a detailed analysis is needed before drawing conclusions about DeepSeek's impact on global leadership in the field of AI.
The development of DeepSeek opens new prospects for Ukraine, but also carries certain risks due to the international situation and the potential technological dependence on the Chinese company.
