Today, August 16, theater and film actor, director, comedian Pierre Richard turns 90 years old.

Richard is known for films such as "Blissful Alexander", "Tall Blond Man with One Black Shoe", "The Return of the Tall Blond Man", "The Twin", "The Fugitives", "My Father the Hero", "The Umbrella Coup", "Right Now, Ladies and Gentlemen" and others.

The actor was born on August 16, 1934, in Valenciennes, France. He started making his peers laugh to win their affection because he was bullied due to his noble lineage.

In 1967, director Yves Robert invited him to star in the film "Blissful Alexander". After this, Richard became famous for his comedies.

Tandem with Depardieu

Richard and Gérard Depardieu first acted together in 1981 in the film "The Fugitives". Their collaboration was incredibly successful, and it became a significant event for French cinema.

The continuation of their collaboration brought even more laughs in the films "My Father the Hero" and "The Umbrella Coup". These films had social tragicomic undertones, making them even funnier. Richard and Depardieu were not only partners on-screen but also close friends off-screen.

In 1996, Richard starred in the comedy "A Chef in Love" by Georgian director Nana Djordjadze, for which he received the "Best Actor" award.

As a reminder, in 2015, Richard visited Kyiv to present his own wine. He met with Oleh Skrypka, who gifted him a Ukrainian embroidered shirt.

In 2024, Pierre Richard joined the United24 team and supported Ukraine's defense against Russian occupiers.

On August 15, actress Gena Rowlands, known for her roles in the films "The Notebook" and "Another Woman", passed away.
