Relocation Assistance in the Armed Forces of Ukraine — Who Can Receive It and How Much in August.
Service members of the Armed Forces of Ukraine who are relocating to a new duty station can receive financial assistance. This is known as relocation payment, aimed at compensating for expenses related to service, relocations, and supporting the livelihoods of the defenders' families.
The publication ArmyInform reported on who can receive 'relocation assistance' and how it is calculated.
Who is Eligible for Relocation Assistance
Payments are provided for service members who are serving on a contract basis or have been drafted as officers.
The full list of categories of defenders entitled to this type of financial assistance is outlined in the Ministry of Defense Order No. 45.
Mobilized service members are not eligible to receive 'relocation assistance'.
This assistance is provided when relocating to a new military duty station in another locality due to appointment to a military position or training. It can also be due to the relocation of a military unit (subunit of the military unit), institution, or organization to another locality.
The right to receive relocation assistance and daily allowances for service members arises:
- on the date the service member assumes their duties and responsibilities — for service members who have moved to a new duty station from one locality to another due to appointment;
- on the date of enrollment in training — for service members enrolled in military educational institutions;
- on the date of arrival at the designated location, as announced by the commander of the military unit — for service members who have relocated to a new duty station as part of a military unit (subunit) in another locality.
What Amount Can Be Received
Relocation assistance is paid in the amount of the monthly salary of the service member and 50 percent of the monthly salary for each family member who has moved with them to the new duty station.
Daily allowances are also paid for each day spent in transit for the service member and each family member who has relocated with them.
Family members are considered to be individuals listed in the service member's personal file, including:
- husband (wife) regardless of age and ability to work;
- children of the service member and their spouse, including adopted children who have not reached adulthood;
- infirm parents or adoptive parents of the service member and their spouse.
If both the husband and wife are service members, relocation assistance is paid for each of them at their new duty station, and family members' allowances are drawn from the monthly salary of one of them.
Balancing military service and family life can be a challenging task. This financial assistance is designed to help service members and their families better cope with the transition to a new duty station and ensure their livelihoods.Read also
