61 Enemy Drones Downed in One Day: Record Feat by Ukraine’s 118th Brigade Pilots.
Ukrainian Drone Pilots Set a New Benchmark
According to UATV: On June 22, 2023, operators from the unmanned systems battalion of Ukraine’s 118th Separate Mechanized Brigade achieved an unprecedented milestone. They intercepted and destroyed over 60 Russian 'Molniya' drones in a single day, with the final count reaching 61 enemy UAVs. The operation began at 4:10 AM and concluded with the last takedown at 9:47 PM.
Ukrainian Forces Show Their Effectiveness
Working relentlessly for nearly 18 hours, the drone crews neutralized an enemy aircraft on average every 17.5 minutes. This accomplishment was logged by the pilots of the SIRIUS unmanned systems battalion within the 118th OMBr, who stated:
'The 118th Separate Mechanized Brigade has set an absolute record for intercepting enemy UAVs.'
Over the same 24-hour period, Ukraine’s defense forces eliminated more than 2,000 tactical-level drones across the front. Since the start of the full-scale invasion, the Russian military has lost over 366,100 UAVs. These figures highlight the growing effectiveness of Ukrainian troops in countering hostile drone operations.
This record underscores the high level of training and responsiveness among Ukrainian personnel in countering enemy aerial threats. Continuous improvements in tactics and technology in this domain could significantly shape the course of battle, given the critical role drones play in modern warfare. The ability to destroy such a large number of UAVs also demonstrates Ukraine’s capacity to effectively neutralize airborne dangers, potentially strengthening their strategic position in the conflict.
