German Defense Minister’s Remarks

According to Espreso.tv: In an interview with n-tv, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius described the frontline situation as stable, noting that the line of contact has not seen major shifts. He highlighted significant casualties on both sides, which continue to shape the conflict’s trajectory. Pistorius emphasized that the current state of the front is more favorable than at any previous point.

The minister also acknowledged the effectiveness of Ukrainian forces, which are persistently striking Russian infrastructure—particularly oil refineries and logistics hubs—using drones. Regarding the potential transfer of Taurus missiles to Ukraine, Pistorius stated that he does not believe Kyiv still needs these weapons. Ukraine has been requesting the Taurus missiles from Germany since 2023, but the previous German government refused due to escalation concerns.

Taurus Missiles

The Taurus KEPD 350 is a German-Swedish cruise missile with a range of over 500 kilometers. Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov has noted that Ukraine already possesses missiles with a range comparable to the German Taurus, potentially reducing the need for additional deliveries.

Pistorius’s comments reflect Germany’s cautious approach to assessing the military situation in Ukraine, mindful of the risk of escalation. Despite the relative stability at the front, heavy losses on both sides could influence future developments. Meanwhile, Ukraine continues to demonstrate its capacity to strike key Russian infrastructure, signaling its ability to sustain the conflict on its own terms.
