How to Claim an 18% Tax Refund for Education Expenses Before Year-End.
Ukraine's Tax Relief for Education Costs
According to Novyny.live: Ukraine offers a tax relief mechanism that allows students or their family members to claim an 18% refund on tuition fees paid in 2025, with the reimbursement to be received in 2026. This benefit applies to educational institutions regardless of whether they are state, municipal, or privately owned. Eligible students may be enrolled in full-time, part-time, evening, or distance learning programs. This initiative is part of broader efforts to make higher education more affordable and support families during challenging economic times.
To qualify for the tax discount, applications must be submitted by December 31. It is crucial to note that only tuition fees paid to domestic higher education institutions are eligible for reimbursement. As stated on the 'Diia' portal:
Refunds are only available for services provided by domestic higher education institutions.
The compensation will be paid into a bank account within 60 calendar days after the tax declaration is processed. In 2026, the state has allocated over UAH 6 billion for these youth payments. This substantial funding is designed to significantly ease the financial burden on students and their relatives while also encouraging young people to pursue higher education within Ukraine.
The Significance of the Education Tax Relief
The introduction of this tuition tax relief represents a vital step in supporting youth and developing Ukraine's educational system. Given the financial hardships many students face, this initiative can substantially improve access to higher education. With state support, students can focus more on their studies rather than financial worries, which may, in turn, contribute to raising the overall level of education in the country.
