Liliya Podkopayeva on athletes who do not communicate with Ukraine: what happened.
According to inkorr.com: Olympic champion Liliya Podkopayeva told Marichka Padalko that not all gold medalists from Ukraine keep in touch with their homeland. She mentioned Yana Klochkova, who is currently not on the territory of Ukraine, and noted that their communication ceased even before the war began.
“Six years ago, I wished her a happy birthday and suddenly noticed that she had been removed from my friends on Facebook. Then she added me again. But that was all. I want Ukrainians to have a positive attitude towards Ukraine. However, we cannot influence their thoughts and switch them,” Podkopayeva explained.
Return to the homeland
Liliya Podkopayeva also expressed her desire to return to the occupied territories, particularly to Donetsk, and shared that she had already discussed this possibility with the head of the Border Service.
Memories of childhood
In the conversation, Liliya shared memories of her childhood in a Russian-speaking environment in Donetsk. She spoke about meeting her biological father, who is Russian, and explained why her upbringing occurred in such an environment.
Liliya Podkopayeva's speech prompts reflections on the complex ties of athletes with their homeland, especially in the context of a military conflict. Her desire to return to the occupied territories underscores how important roots and memories are for people, regardless of the circumstances in which they find themselves.
