New wave of migrants from Belarus: how Poland is strengthening EU border protection.
The migration crisis at the border of Poland and Belarus is intensifying
According to FREEДOM: The situation regarding migration at the border between Poland and Belarus is escalating. The Polish government points to increasing pressure from Belarus to smuggle migrants across the shared border. This reaction is seen as a response to the heightened measures that Poland is taking at its borders with Lithuania and Germany. Experts believe that the aim of this artificially created migration crisis is to destabilize the situation within the European Union, reports FREEДОМ.
The migration crisis has intensified at the border of Poland with Belarus
After several months of calm, the migration crisis at the border of Poland with Belarus is gaining momentum again. Poland's Minister of Internal Affairs and Administration, Mariusz Kamiński, noted that with the strengthening of control at the border with Lithuania, Lukashenko's regime is increasing pressure on the Poland-Belarus border.
'Lukashenko and Russian services, seeing that we are gradually dismantling the schemes for smuggling migrants into the European Union due to control at the Polish-Lithuanian and Polish-German borders, are reverting to this original route,' quotes Poland's information agency ROR the words of Poland's Minister of Internal Affairs and Administration, Mariusz Kamiński.
According to Mariusz Kamiński, combating illegal migration and strengthening borders is a top priority for Poland. A new electronic surveillance system along the border with Belarus has also been announced, aimed at facilitating the detection of violations.
'Almost 280 million zlotys (approximately 65.7 million euros, - ed.) have been invested, nearly 5000 cameras have been installed, about 2000 infrared spotlights to continuously capture signals about violations in this section of the border, about attempts to cross it illegally,' reported Poland's Minister of Internal Affairs.
In 2022, Poland already built a fence at the border with Belarus, but according to Polish border guards, migrants continue to try to illegally enter the country.
Establishing measures to prevent illegal immigration and support border security remains a pressing issue for Poland and the European Union.
