Denmark’s Prime Minister Warns Europe Must Brace for War as New Russian Aggression Looms.
Growing Concern Over Russian Threats
According to Espreso.tv: In an interview with Gazeta Wyborcza, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen raised alarms about the potential for renewed Russian aggression and stressed the critical need to continue backing Ukraine. She emphasized that the war in Ukraine poses a direct threat to the security of all Europe, compelling Western nations to significantly bolster their own defense capabilities. This warning comes as European leaders increasingly fear that the conflict could spill beyond Ukraine’s borders.
Frederiksen pointed out that Russia’s true capabilities have been unmistakable since 2022. She stated:
“Unfortunately, such a scenario is possible” - Mette Frederiksen
, reflecting deep concern over how the situation may evolve. The prime minister urged decisive action, declaring:
“We must support Ukraine with everything we have, at any cost” - Mette Frederiksen
European Nations Respond to Rising Dangers
Meanwhile, other countries across Europe are taking steps to address the mounting threats. Sweden has begun preparing for a potential occupation of an island in the Baltic Sea, signaling readiness to meet possible challenges head-on. On April 22, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius announced plans to transform the German army into the 'most powerful in Europe.'
Additionally, the Dutch military intelligence service MIVD has warned that an armed conflict between Russia and NATO could erupt within a year after hostilities in Ukraine conclude. In response, NATO is reinforcing defenses in the Baltic states, underscoring the gravity of the situation.
Frederiksen highlighted the need for appropriate action, noting: “We are still behaving as if we live in peacetime.” Her words underscore the urgency of addressing contemporary challenges at a time when security remains a pressing concern for all of Europe.
The Danish prime minister’s statements reflect a growing unease among European leaders over the continent’s safety amid the escalating war in Ukraine and the threat posed by Russia. They signal an urgent need for the EU and NATO to take more proactive steps to ensure regional stability and support Ukraine, which continues to face aggression. Enhancing defense capabilities and maintaining readiness to respond to potential crises have become key pillars of European security strategy during this critical period.
