Strengthening security guarantees for Ukraine

According to ТСН: Prime Minister of the Netherlands Mark Rutte emphasized the importance of strengthening security guarantees for Ukraine, especially in the context of recent discussions in Berlin. He believes that a strong position from Kyiv will create all the necessary conditions for President Zelensky's dialogue with the aggressor.

During a conversation with journalists, Mark Rutte noted:

"You understand that also last night in Berlin, security guarantees became very strong. And this is important because it's not just a 'coalition of the willing', it is also a strong Ukrainian army. And it’s also about the monitoring provided by the U.S. and strong support from the United States, the whole package. I want to emphasize this. This is very important because it provides a real opportunity for the President of Ukraine to negotiate with Russia."

The Prime Minister also noted that strengthening guarantees could lead to a ceasefire, which would be an extremely significant step towards ending the war. He stressed that the Netherlands is actively involved in the 'coalition of the willing' and participates in planning future security operations.

Mark Rutte highlighted the importance of parliamentary procedures in involving the Dutch military in security forces. He explained:

"If there is a need to politically initiate the process after the declaration of a ceasefire—whether it happens in 24 or 48 hours—we must act prudently. It is necessary to go through all the steps in parliament to ensure broad political support for our military's participation in security forces."

Additionally, the Prime Minister added that the Netherlands remains a key partner for Ukraine, focusing not only on current military assistance but also on long-term mechanisms to deter Russia.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky stated that 'the most intensive and purposeful peace negotiations' are ongoing since the beginning of the war.

Meanwhile, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has stated that the parties are 'on the verge' of a diplomatic resolution to the conflict in Ukraine. Deputy Minister Sergey Ryabkov confirmed Moscow's readiness to conclude a peace agreement, but presented new conditions.

The efforts of the international community, particularly the Netherlands, in terms of ensuring Ukraine's security are important for stabilizing the situation in the region. Security guarantees and support from Western partners may be decisive in Ukraine's pursuit of peace and restoration of territorial integrity. The willingness to negotiate from both sides opens new prospects for ending the war, however, the conditions set by Russia remain key. Without exaggeration, these events could determine the further course of the conflict.
